Thank you all for gathering here. These past few weeks have been difficult, but I pray that none of us fall into despair. Now, more than ever, we need to keep our spirits up and put an end to this twisted game.

Vriska and Kirigiri have asked that we take advantage of our time now to discuss our next course of action, without an immediate deadline constraining us, driving us to ill temper. As we have struggled with how we should approach the trial, perhaps we should focus on the roles—the ones with the purpose to kill.

In particular, what sort of people would the Chiefs place in such a role? Not necessarily who would kill, normally, but who would be the Chiefs' "ideal" candidates. That is what we wish to figure out.

... Of course, we may not come to a complete agreement. But perhaps we will walk away from this with a better idea of how to go on from here, if nothing else.

When I asked the Chiefs about the roles--Hal, by the way, before we get into that argument--he said that the role is incentive enough to murder, and everyone who has a role has a reason to perform their role.

So the only thing I can figure is that it's people they have some sort of leverage over somehow or another, too.

Break a person enough and you have prime motivation to kill.

Although based on what we've seen so far-- [ one kill, because the Chiefs don't count ] someone who can slip under the radar. If we're also going with what Serph said earlier as well, someone who we wouldn't expect to normally kill.

...The expectation of "would" or "wouldn't" normally kill is a little strange, anyway.

I'm just pointing out that if we go with the definition of entertainment, someone who you wouldn't normally expect to be able to kill in such grisly ways would be the best candidate.

To be honest, this is exactly what I've been thinking. Handing a knife to a total innocent and telling them to kill, and not giving them a way out of it? I'm sure they'd consider that pure gold.

Which means we have to really be careful what we're asking and not skip over anybody from now on when we're in trials.

But then there's the secondary problem of not knowing what most people's levers are.

It can generally be hard to find out until after the fact. The point is...I don't think anyone could be discounted from it so easily as "they don't seem the type".

Everybody has something and if there's any way to figure out a pattern of what those somethings are, maybe we'd stand a chance.

Knowing what limits, if any, exist on the incentives they can offer would help.

Maybe it has something to do with the items most of us received. Some people got more personal items than others.

That's a good point, too. I think it's safe to say that everybody got something that meant something to them no matter how much value it has, but if it's something really useful or something that means a lot...I could see it. But at the same time you'd think they'd withhold it from us instead of giving it to us. Like a reward system? That's where I get stuck with that.

The "profiles" they have on us are more or less accurate as well. So, maybe it's not an incentives system so much as them letting us know how much they have on us.

And the reason that's effective is that it's just enough to put a little fear into the ones who really have big secrets they probably don't want the rest of the island to find out. That's actually not a bad idea to explore, dude. I don't know how much of that might be true, but it's definitely something. Why else give us public access to the profiles?

Come to think of it...why are three profiles being picked out each week? That's the second time they've done that.

Anyone can kill, so anybody curious enough to go say they will and ask what they'll get would know.

I've already thought about doing it. But Katara won't let me because she's a goody two-shoes. So unless you can get it out of those two bastards or someone who is the killer, you won't get anything.

Either that or Katara's interested in keeping you alive. Funny concept. But I don't know. Maybe we're still just asking all the wrong questions to get the right answers. I started asking them on Saturday but we didn't get that far before things got out of hand. I wonder...if I could get more from them especially now that I already have an idea of what I can ask. If that makes sense.
